How to make a Bobble Stitch

The bobble-stitch is a cluster of unfinished double crochets that we finish off at the same time. This stitch is puffy and easy to make, it’s a great way of adding some texture to the piece you’re making. (video included)

The number of DCs we crochet in a bobble can vary according to the pattern, but it’s usually mentioned in the abbreviations part of the pattern or followed by the abbreviation for bobble, for instance, in a bob-4 we make 4 DCs, in a bob-5 we make 5 DCs and so on.

Tips to make the perfect bobble: Do not crochet too tightly, you need room to keep yarning over and drawing up loops. Bobbles are usually followed by a single crochet stitch, the tighter you make this stitch, the puffier your bobble will be.

Repeat steps 1-4 as many times as necessary: if you’re making a bob-4, you’ll repeat these steps a total of 4 times. Every time you add a double crochet to your bobble, you’ll have one extra loop on your hook. Here I’m making a bob-4, so in the end I have 5 loops on my hook (the loop I started with + 4 double crochets).
